Having finally decided that i would give World of Warcraft a try, i went to Blizzard’s website and started to create an account for myself. It was a bit strange because i had to give out an American address so that i could create an account in an US server.
You might be wondering why the fuck would i want to be in an US server since i’m from Europe but it’s quite simple really. The people talking about WoW in QT3 were mostly playing on the same server and since i didn’t want to deal with retards that i don’t really “know”, i chose the server with most people from QT3 : Moonrunner. Choosing an US server proved to be a good thing but at the same time, also a curse. More on that later.
After finding a suitable fake address, i created my account, grabbed the installer and left it running during the night. Next morning i was ready to kick some Azerothian ass but first i had to create my virtual self.
Choosing a faction was easy, the people i’ve mentioned before were on the Alliance side so that was it. Creating a new character though, that was a bit harder.
First of all and even though i like the cartoonish aspect of World of Warcraft, i gotta say that most characters are FUGLY as hell. Dwarves were the only cool enough but if i’m rolling with a dwarf, it’s going to be a class that can smash your face with a big fucking hammer or axe. But i was tired of playing a melee toon. I wanted something new.
Looking at the caster classes, they all seemed marginaly interesting. Well, except for priests but that’s just because i hate to play a healing class. So, it was a tie between mages and warlocks. Well, except warlocks have a demon and trade life for mana. Those two aspects of the class were both quite interesting and that made the deal, i was going to be a warlock.
Now i just had to choose a race and there were only two races that allowed me to create a warlock: human and gnome. This wasn’t very hard because gnomes sounded like they were like that annoying-little-brat-next-door so they were immediately excluded. (And damn, wasn’t i right about them!)
There was just another final and crucial step that had to be made: choosing a name for my toon. Oh boy .. how i wish i had spent a bit more time here. I was starting to get annoyed because this was taking so long and quickly my dementia kicked in: “Let’s see, so i’m just doing a trial, i’m a noob to WoW and will be a warlock. That’s it … i’ll be called NoobLock!! Aww yeah!”
And finally i could start exploring Azeroth …
